Florida Gulf Coast University invites the public to attend the Jan. 12 installation of Aysegul Timur, Ph.D. The time-honored academic ceremony will take place from 10 a.m. to noon at Alico Arena, and an outdoor lunch will follow on the FGCU Soccer Field.

Similar to a university commencement, the installation is a formal ceremony that includes speeches and processional marches of faculty and dignitaries in full academic regalia. The university-wide celebration is one of great joy, and it will mark FGCU’s achievements over the past 26 years and what lies ahead for the institution.

During the ceremony, Timur will be installed with the articles and symbols of FGCU’s President’s Office, and she will take receipt of the presidential chain of office from the FGCU Board of Trustees.

Timur was unanimously confirmed as FGCU’s fifth president by the Florida Board of Governors on June 22, following her selection as president-elect by the FGCU Board of Trustees in May. Timur is the successor of Mike Martin, Ph.D., who retired in June and now carries the title of president emeritus.

The ceremony and lunch are free to attend, but tickets are required to enter Alico Arena. Members of the public can CLICK HERE (https://a.purplepass.com/events/270278-inauguration-of-aysegul-timur%2C-ph.d.-jan-12th-2024) to reserve tickets.

Members of the media who plan to cover the ceremony must contact Pamela McCabe at [email protected] for event credentials.
